A dental implant replaces a missing tooth from the root up. Knowing each step removes the fear and helps you plan. Here is the full journey.
A dental implant involves four main stages: a planning assessment with 3D scans, placing the titanium implant into the jaw under local anaesthesia, a healing period of a few months while it fuses with the bone, and finally fitting a custom crown. The placement is comfortable and most patients return to normal activity the next day.
Step 1: Assessment and planning
Dr. Keerthi examines your mouth and takes a 3D scan to check bone quality and plan the exact implant position digitally. This is where the success of the whole procedure is decided.
Step 2: Implant placement
Under local anaesthesia, a small titanium post is precisely placed into the jawbone. It is comfortable and usually takes under an hour for a single implant.
Step 3: Healing (osseointegration)
Over the next two to four months the bone fuses with the implant, creating a foundation as strong as a natural root. A temporary tooth can be provided where needed.
Step 4: The crown
Once healed, a custom crown is matched to your natural teeth and fixed onto the implant. The result looks, feels and works like a real tooth.
