Veneers are a long-term cosmetic investment, so longevity matters. With good care they last many years before needing replacement.
Porcelain veneers typically last 10 to 15 years or more, while composite veneers last around 5 to 8 years. Lifespan depends on oral hygiene, avoiding grinding, and not biting hard objects. Veneers do not decay, but the tooth underneath can, so good care keeps them lasting.
What affects lifespan
- Daily brushing and cleaning between teeth.
- Wearing a night guard if you grind.
- Not biting nails, ice or opening packets with teeth.
- Regular check-ups to protect the tooth beneath.
Do veneers need replacing?
Eventually yes, due to normal wear or if the edge stains. A worn veneer is replaced much like the original was placed. Compare types in our veneers guide.
